My DIL Made Me Wear a ‘Bag’ to Her Wedding Because It Was More Appropriate for My Age and Weight — She Regretted It

When Julie’s soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, dictated Julie’s wedding attire, Julie was horrified by the black, shapeless dress she was given. Instead of accepting Elizabeth’s choice, Julie took matters into her own hands.

“That girl is going to give you a run for your money, Julie,” said my friend, Gloria, when I shared my concerns.

Elizabeth was sweet when Jimmy, my son, was around, but cold and distant when he wasn’t. I always let it slide for Jimmy’s sake, but the wedding preparations made things worse.

“Mom, Elizabeth may ask your opinion on the flowers and what you’ll wear. Is that okay?” Jimmy asked.

“Absolutely,” I replied, confident in my elegant yellow dress.

When I showed Elizabeth the dress, she frowned and criticized it, offering to sew me a “more appropriate” dress. A week later, she handed me a shapeless black sack, humiliating me.

That night, I decided to stand up for myself. On the wedding day, I wore the black dress but brought a stunning red gown with me. Before the ceremony, I changed into the red dress, turning heads as I walked in.

Elizabeth was furious, but I stayed composed, and guests showered me with compliments. Jimmy was thrilled to see me looking confident and happy.

Elizabeth realized she couldn’t disrespect me without consequences. From that day forward, our relationship changed, and she treated me with newfound respect.
