After over a year at its Chandler Street location, Black Sheep Bah-Bah-Q is closing permanently.
The owners made the announcement in a post on the restaurant’s social media platforms.
“Thank you all so much for supporting us here at Black Sheep. Unfortunately we will be closing our doors permanently. We will miss seeing all of your smiling faces and can’t thank you enough for the support,” the statement read.
The post did not say when the restaurant’s last day would be.
The restaurant had been open Wednesdays through Sundays. No one was there on Monday, and a sign on the window said, “We are closed.” A phone message left at the restaurant was not immediately returned.
The restaurant at 397 Chandler St. started in 2021 as as a roadside trailer in Leicester, and later spent two seasons in Spencer. Owners Jennifer Wright and Patrick Flynn of Paxton opened their brick-and-mortar location in January 2023 for dine-in and takeout.
The location is the former home of City Bar & Grille and a private club.
Wright and Flynn were not new to the Worcester restaurant scene. Wright was general manager at Brew City Grill & Brew House on Shrewsbury Street for about 10 years.
In 2019, the couple announced plans to buy and restore the former Olympia Theater in Worcester to a music venue. That project fell through during the COVID-19 pandemic.
True to its punny name, Black Sheep Bah-Bah-Q’s menu included barbecue, American comfort food and gluten-free options. The brick-and-mortar location opened with a back-of-the house team that included chefs Diane George and Scott Gould.
According to the restaurant’s website, the management team was looking to offer more live music performances this year with the goal of making Black Sheep one of the best music venues in the Worcester area.
