A man, Mark, faces a painful rift with his daughter, Alice, after discovering that she’s not his biological child, but the product of his wife Clara’s affair with a man named James. Alice, upon learning the truth, becomes furious and accuses Mark of hiding her real father’s identity. She chooses to distance herself from him, even rejecting his attempts to maintain a relationship.
Years pass with no contact, until Alice reaches out, requesting that Mark walk her down the aisle at her wedding. She acknowledges the tension in their relationship, blaming Mark for their estrangement and claiming that her fiancé’s mother insists on Mark’s presence, threatening to cancel the wedding if he doesn’t attend.
Despite Alice’s request, Mark refuses. He believes that Alice has never truly acknowledged the pain her actions caused him, and he feels that she’s only reaching out now because she wants something from him. He’s firm in his decision, unwilling to be taken for granted, and hopes that Alice will learn the importance of recognizing and respecting the people who have cared for her.
Some people, including his friend Kevin, criticize Mark for turning down the request, but he stands by his belief that this tough love is necessary for Alice to realize her mistakes. Mark hopes that by refusing her request, Alice will finally understand the value of their relationship.
