Tom Selleck’s ‘Sad Final Days’: How ‘Washed-Up’ Former ‘Blue Bloods’ Actor ‘Celebrated’ Turning 80 With SOLO Fast Food Meal — After We Told How He’s Battling Obesity, the Blues and Career Death

Tom Selleck reportedly spent his 80th birthday alone, as the legendary actor was spotted grabbing lunch at a McDonald’s drive-thru.

According to eyewitnesses, the Blue Bloods star appeared downcast while eating by himself inside his truck in Thousand Oaks, California.

It was perhaps unsurprising that Selleck chose to keep his milestone birthday low-key, having previously shared his modest plans for the occasion: “I’ll probably have dinner with maybe my brother and my sister and (my wife) Jillie, just go out to dinner, kind of be quiet and not make a big deal of it.”

He also said: “I’m trying not to count. I stopped celebrating birthdays a while back. I intend to keep working.”

Although Selleck remains determined to continue his career, work opportunities have reportedly become less frequent since his long-running CBS drama Blue Bloods was canceled in November 2023 after 14 seasons.

A source claimed that the Hollywood veteran has been contacting some of his famous friends, including Friends stars Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox.

“He’s desperate for work and calling in every favor he can think of,” the insider previously alleged.

The source went on to explain: “People might not realize how close he is with the Friends cast from back when the Magnum, P.I. hunk famously played a love interest of Cox’s character, Monica Geller.

“They all loved him when he was on the show. He’s hoping Jennifer and Courteney will lend him a hand.”

Selleck’s appearance on the NBC sitcom earned him an Emmy nomination in 2000.

“He genuinely thinks they could help him land a role that suits his preferences, and perhaps Jen could even arrange an appearance on The Morning Show. He would absolutely love that,” the source added, referring to Aniston’s Apple TV+ series.

The insider also suggested that Selleck is growing increasingly frustrated with having so little to do. “He’s a workaholic and simply can’t imagine retiring. Tom has finally accepted the reality that Blue Bloods isn’t returning, so he’s actively pursuing new opportunities. He has plenty of friends throughout Hollywood, and he’s reaching out to all his connections.”

Selleck also has concerns about his health, particularly when it comes to his weight.

Sources previously claimed that the 6-foot-4 actor weighs nearly 350 pounds.

“It’s no secret that Tom has been dealing with questionable health issues, and he openly tells people how much he resents being forced into an early retirement he never wanted,” the insider said at the time.

The source further alleged, “His substantial weight gain must be placing tremendous strain on his joints.”

Dr. Gabe Mirkin, who is based in Florida, has also expressed concern about the Magnum, P.I. star’s uncertain future.
