In a recent appearance on “Good Morning America,” Pat Sajak, the longtime and beloved host of “Wheel of Fortune,” spoke candidly about a frightening health episode that led to emergency surgery. Sajak revealed that he had undergone an operation for a blocked bowel, an experience so severe that he genuinely believed he might be close to death.
Sajak described how the agonizing pain began during what should have been an ordinary morning walk with his daughter. The discomfort quickly became intense, leaving him doubled over and requiring urgent medical care. The pain was so severe that even the medications he had been prescribed provided no relief.
Then something unexpected happened. Sajak’s doctors gave him a powerful medication that brought almost immediate relief. Suddenly, he felt as though he had entered an entirely different world, surrounded by vivid colors and an overwhelming sense of calm. He could hear his wife and daughter nearby, but their voices seemed distant. In that strange moment, he thought, “This must be death. This must be what dying feels like.”
Fortunately, Sajak’s fear turned out to be mistaken. He was simply experiencing the effects of the medication. “I was just high,” he joked. The surgery was successful, and his doctors told him they found no underlying explanation for the intestinal blockage. He was able to return to living his life normally.
Sajak also expressed how grateful he was for his recovery, saying he had been feeling excellent for several weeks. He had already returned to the “Wheel of Fortune” studio and resumed hosting without any problems. Sajak jokingly admitted that he had some concerns about his co-host, Vanna White, eventually taking over his position. He discovered that she actually enjoys hosting and worries that she might end up stealing the spotlight. Still, Sajak remains watchful and has given no indication that he plans to step away.
